Gettin' Ready for Valentine's
So, I just LOVE the fact that we have a holiday that celebrates LOVE! Valentine's is so great. And I always feel like it gets a bit left out, b/c you really only get to think about it for 2 weeks in February. Well, I decided not to let that happen this year. I realized that we did not have a single Valentine decoration, so I set out in late January to change that! I didn't think I could handle another season of "Mom, why don't WE have our house all decorated for [whatever holiday it is]?" :) I made up a heart table runner for my entry way, and added "XOXO" blocks that I made, along with a framed "Love One Another" and a framed print of ferns in a heart shape. It turned out so cute. Eve cut out lots of hearts and hung them on our big front window, and we even made a heart garland to string across the fireplace. Those little touches just made our home feel so festive for the holiday. It's been so fun. We've also spent lots of time making and sending Valentines out... with lots more to make this week! Eve's been eating it up.
We made chocolate-dipped pretzel rods with heart sprinkles, as well as the Oreo truffles (recipe courtesy Bakerella) pictured above. The kids and I have tried to put a small token of love in Jon's car before he leaves for work each morning (like a "coupon" for a backscratch when he got home, or a drawing from the kids, etc.). I also made these cute heart baskets by Martha Stewart and hung them on the kids' doorknob. I put a little goody in there each night after the kids fall asleep for them to find in the morning. They have both loved that, especially Eldon. They remind me every night to not forget to put something in there! Anyway, just wanted to share what we've done to celebrate LOVE!
We love you and wish you a happy heart this holiday.
