We decided that our 7-foot tree just didn't look that great in our new front room with 16' ceilings, so it became "the kids' tree" this year. We strung it with super bright colorful lights. The kids hung some of their matchbox cars and paper-glitter candy canes on it. It had a big golden star on top (Eldon had the privilege of putting the star on this year). The kids slept beneath its boughs several nights before Christmas. It was fun. And it was actually a really cute tree. I loved how cheery those lights were.
Jon's parents and sister graciously allowed us to borrow a 14' tree that they weren't using this year. Due to a few technical difficulties, we didn't get that tree up til about Dec. 15th, which was extremely odd for me. The tree is the best symbol of the season, in my mind. I was very grateful for our "kids' tree" downstairs to help bring the Christmas spirit to our home. And I just loved snuggling or reading on the couch by the light of the big tree once we got it up.
