Goodbye to Kiwi

On Thanksgiving, Eve discovered that her favorite little chicken, a silly-looking feathered Banty named Kiwi, had died. She did not cry, but her feelings about this little one (and all her chickens) has come through in her drawings. The drawings above was so sweet - Eve told me it was all the chickens looking down at Kiwi, telling her to "get up". Eve draws in her notebook every day on the way home from school and it is literally filled with drawings of her beloved chickens. I know it sounds funny that she loves these birds so much, but she really does. It was like getting a glimpse into her cute little heart when I discovered her notebook. Eve is a sweet girl, an animal lover through and through.
On Thanksgiving evening, we played the "I'm grateful for..." game. We toss a fabric pumpkin around and you get to say one thing you're thankful for before passing it on. Eldon was thankful for water, our house, our family, snowmans, toys, the piano, windows... Eve said she was grateful for her chickens, snow, Christmas time when we're all around the tree opening presents, Valentine's day, and "I'm grateful that Kiwi won't have to be cold anymore".
