On the TWENTY-FOURTH day of Christmas

Christmas Eve! We packed up and headed down to my parents' house for brunch. My sister, Sami, called from her mission in CA just as we were sitting down to eat, so we each got to take turns talking to her. She sounds great! We had a super yummy lunch of croissant sandwiches, with all the delicious stuff - black forest ham, provolone cheese, avocado chutney, homegrown apple cider from my grandparents' tree... mmmm! It was sooo good, and all festive with a new red tablecloth and such. We exchanged gifts there, and I got my favorite gift of the whole season: a beautiful painting of the Washington coast, done by my brother-in-law, Patrick. I love it! And he and Emily refinished a little table and chair set for my kids that is just super cute.

Then we went to Jon's parents' home for their special Christmas Eve dinner. Cindy had the table set all sparkly and fancy, and we ate prime rib and rolls and baked potatoes. Yum! We also exchanged gifts and had our little "nut-in-the-pudding" tradition. Papa and Luke won this year. :) The kids opened their Christmas jammies, and then we headed home!

I couldn't believe it, but both kids stayed awake the whole way home, so we had to do the regular bedtime ritual even though Jon and I had a lot (wink wink) to do before Santa came! It was so cute listening to the kids talk to each other so excitedly in bed. It wasn't long before they fell asleep, fortunately! We got to bed around midnight, and Eve woke up at 3. She was sick, and got super mad when we wouldn't let her open her gifts after she had seen that Santa had come. So I got to spend the rest of a sleepless night laying with her!

I read "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" by Dr. Seuss to Eve while we were at Nana's. SUCH a great book! We're definitely gonna have to buy that one for our collection.
